The Explanation
(for those who require one)

And, of course, that is what all of this is -- all of this: the one song, ever changing, ever reincarnated, that speaks somehow from and to and for that which is ineffable within us and without us, that is both prayer and deliverance, folly and wisdom, that inspires us to dance or smile or simply to go on, senselessly, incomprehensibly, beatifically, in the face of mortality and the truth that our lives are more ill-writ, ill-rhymed and fleeting than any song, except perhaps those songs -- that song, endlesly reincarnated -- born of that truth, be it the moon and June of that truth, or the wordless blue moan, or the rotgut or the elegant poetry of it. That nameless black-hulled ship of Ulysses, that long black train, that Terraplane, that mystery train, that Rocket '88', that Buick 6 -- same journey, same miracle, same end and endlessness."

Think of the possibilities if they went to study at the feet of Sam the Sham or Yogi Bear rather than the Maharishi!!

I intended it as a Mop Tops post but then I got to looking at how goddamned cool they look in the pic (even Paul with his anchor shirt that would probably be more appropriate for an infant) and decided it was a Cool Hall of Fame post...I would have put it in both categories but I can't figure out how to make 2 category titles appear on 2 different lines in the heading. I use wordpress on my own site and every time I find myself in blogger it's like being in Shelbyville to my Springfield.

Just put a "
" between category titles and that'll put 'em on separate lines.

I'm guessing this was on the set of Help?

Uh, just put a < br > (without the spaces) between category titles and that'll put 'em on separate lines.

I never know what kind of html is gonna work in these furshlugginer comments things.

Thanks a lot, I would have never figured that out.

This is actually on their first trip to India.

That's a great account, I've never seen pictures from that trip before. Funnily enough, I was talking to record collector extraordinaire Seymour Stein last week who said India is one of the few, if not only, places in the world where Beatles songs were released on 78 r.p.m. records, because there were so many people who didn't have power and only had wind-up gramophones.

Talking about understanding your market.

This photo turned up in the book version of that George Harrison Living in the Material World.

Beatles on 78! I would never had imagined.

I know, it was news to me too! But it makes total sense. Obviously, EMI had a branch there in that corner of the Commonwealth.
